Who we are

HL Filmes is a production company based in São Paulo, specialized in documentaries, cinema and TV. Founded by Hermes Leal, director and executive producer, it produced documentaries and programs for the main TV networks in Brazil, such as Rede Manchete, SBT, Record and Rede TV. It produced important documentaries such as "Os Herdeiros de Chico Mendes", "Censura e Liberdade no Brasil" and "O Quilombo Perdido". Now, the company is producing its first fiction motion picture, "Cide and Alice", which had its script awarded by Sundance, in co-production with Portugal and France.

HL Filmes is registered in Ancine as a level "C" production company, being able to produce movies and documentaries with budgets up to R$ 3 million. Among the new projects of the company is the documentary "Coronel Fawcett, em Busca da Cidade Perdida", with international partnerships; "Vão das Almas", a comeback to the Kalunga's land, slaves' descendents that live in a "quilombola" in the state of Goiás; "Entre Dois Mundos", about the impact of men's actions in the native community of the Xingu region; and "O Silêncio da Pena", about the prison system in Brazil.

HL and associations

HL Filmes is part of a business group, which also includes Editora Única and Cinema em Transe Institute, both of them working with the goal to produce and promote the news, events and products which are linked to the Brazilian cinema and the audiovisual sector.

Editora Única publishes Revista de CINEMA, a publication dedicated to the Brazilian cinematographic production, already with seven years in the market. It's a magazine that gained its credibility for the important role it plays.

Cinema em Transe Institute carries on research in the cinema field, having published in 2007 the book "ABD 30 Anos", in a partnership with the Ministry of Culture. It develops international survey directed to the external market of Brazilian films and the prospection of Film Comission, works that have been of great value to the development of the Brazilian audiovisual field.

The publishing company and the institute publish annually, since 2005 and in English, the Revista de CINEMA International, with the intent of promoting our audiovisual production in the external market. The magazine circulates in important film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, New York, Miami and Toronto, among others.

Other publications by the group are the materials for international communication, catalogues and magazines of Cinema of Brazil Program, Ministry of Culture, APEX and Ancine.
